Stony Brook Hospital: RMHC Family Rooms

Who We Are

We Keep Families Close to What Matters Most—Their Children

Located within the Stony Brook Hospital NICU and Stony Brook Children’s Hospital our two Ronald McDonald Family rooms are just steps from the hospital rooms. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a space for parents, grandparents, siblings to rest, recharge, grab a snack and take a shower.

Family Rooms Serve Families in the Hospital

  • The living area lets the family take a moment to rest, watch TV, talk to one another, or review information provided by their child’s medical team.

  • Beverages, Snacks and meals are available for when families need a little lift or are hungry after a long day.

  • Whether families need a sympathetic ear, a smile or an encouraging word, RMHC New York Metro volunteers make their day a little bit brighter.

  • Lots of parents can’t bear to leave the child’s bedside to go home and shower. The Family Room gives them space to freshen and do some laundry.

What We Do

Hospitality & Reception

Our Family Room volunteers are the first point of contact for visitors to the Family Room.  They welcome guests, offer hospitality, complete registrations and keep the room neat. Our volunteers make meaningful connections with our guests while offering them some comforts and conveniences of home.
